Location types: how it works

Types of locations, camping behaviour and overnight stays

🏔️ Campercontact lists 60,000 locations in 58 countries. Each type has its own purpose.

  1. Motorhome sites: places to stay overnight with your motorhome, in several subtypes.
  1. Campsites: pitches at a campsite.
  1. Service areas: places to empty grey water and your cassette toilet and refill fresh water. You can't stay overnight here.
  1. Parking spots: places to park your motorhome during the day.

Parking spots help you plan a day out: a city, a sight, the beach or anything else you'd like to discover. You see where you can park your motorhome during the day, without height barriers, with photos so you know what to expect.

⚠️ Parking spots are meant for daytime visits. Staying overnight isn't officially allowed, so always check the local rules of the municipality.

With the Camping behaviour filter you choose No preference, Allowed or Not allowed. Where camping behaviour isn't allowed, you can stay overnight, but without awning, tables and chairs outside or a washing line. Read more in our blog: The meaning of camping behaviour.

✅ Motorhome sites and campsites: yes, overnight stays are always allowed.

❌ Service areas: no, these are for services only.

⚠️ Parking spots and other locations: staying overnight isn't officially allowed here. You'll see Overnight unknown on the location page. Rules differ per country and municipality, so check the local rules first. If you do stay, it's at your own risk and you may be asked to leave.

Noticed that the rules at a location have changed? Let us know: on the location page, tap Submit a change. You can also share your experience in a review.

🤝 Wherever you stay: leave no litter and respect nature and your surroundings. That keeps these places open for everyone.
